Beautiful Inuit Sculpture
Beautiful carved Walrus. Inuit piece by Moses Echalook (b.1931).
Inukjuak community. Signed in syllabics and has disc number 1585.
(E91585) made form Serpentinite/soapstone and bone tusks (tusks are
possibly a replacement but good) approx 7 inches x 5 inches. c 1950's
and in excellent condition. Inuit art is becoming highly collectible
and is hard to find.
Disc number: The Canadian government issued disc numbers to the Inuit
starting in the 1940s and continued into the 1970s. They were imprinted
on fiber discs and were to be worn around the neck. The disc numbers
